There is a certain prestige associated with imported skincare in India. Korean glass skin routines. French pharmacy brands. American dermatologist-backed serums. And there is nothing wrong with appreciating global skincare science. But here is a question worth asking: was that product formulated for your skin?
Most of it was not.
The Problem with Western Skincare for Indian Skin
Western skincare formulations are typically designed around two skin concerns: dryness and ageing. European and North American climates are predominantly dry and cool. UV indices are moderate. Pollution levels — outside major cities — are low.
Indian skin faces the exact opposite profile: high UV year-round, extreme humidity in summer, hard water in every major city, severe pollution in urban areas, and a genetic tendency toward hyperpigmentation and oily T-zones. A moisturiser formulated for dry Scandinavian skin in winter may be completely wrong for combination skin in Mumbai in July.
The Korean Exception — And Why It Has Limits
Korean skincare has been much more relevant to Indian skin because Korean skin shares some characteristics: higher melanin content, a tendency toward pigmentation, and high UV exposure. But K-beauty is formulated for Korean environmental conditions — Seoul winters, relatively low pollution levels compared to Delhi or Mumbai, and primarily Mongoloid skin types.
India has skin tones ranging from Type II to Type VI on the Fitzpatrick scale. India has the Thar Desert and the Kerala backwaters. Delhi air quality is 20x worse than Seoul. A single imported routine cannot work for all of this.
What Indian Skin Actually Needs
• Postbiotic support for a microbiome under constant stress from pollution, hard water, and heat
• Niacinamide for the hyperpigmentation that our melanin-rich skin is prone to
• Lightweight formulas that do not sit heavily in 40-degree heat or 90% monsoon humidity
• SPF that does not feel like sunscreen in a tropical climate (thick white cast SPF is a Western problem solution for a Western skin problem)
• Barrier support for skin that is exposed to harsh environmental conditions year-round
Sonnet Wellness — Built Specifically for Indian Skin
Rub It In Serum was formulated from the ground up for Indian skin concerns, Indian climate, and Indian sensibilities. The postbiotic hero ingredient (Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate) was chosen because it directly addresses the microbiome disruption caused by Indian urban environments. The Niacinamide concentration addresses the hyperpigmentation concerns that are far more prevalent in India than in Western markets. The lightweight, non-greasy texture was tested specifically for humid Indian summers.
Made in India. Formulated for India. Priced for India. And guided by the skincare wisdom that has served Indian skin for generations.
Your skin is Indian. It deserves skincare that understands it.
